NEW: The WÜSTHOF Amici series

October 1, 2021

THE KNIFE SERIES WITH A CALABRIAN SOUL Inspired by the Italian spirit of “la dolce vita,” the Amici knife series is our way of doing simple best. With seven different blades and complementary, functional design assets, like an eye-catching knife block for safe and stylish storage, Amici combines the Mediterranean spirit of Calabrian olive wood handles with the timeless precision of a WÜSTHOF blade. Whether you’re nourishing yourself or others, we at WÜSTHOF have created a durable, premium knife for those extraordinary moments in daily life -- preparing and sharing meals with family and friends. Every Amici knife is inspired by Castello di Serragiumenta, a 16th century castle in the Calabrian countryside, and the matriarch who has helmed the villa’s onsite kitchen for 60 years, Nonna Olga. Fusing WÜSTHOF’s state-of-the-art craftsmanship with southern Italy’s iconic style and spirit, the Amici series is our attempt to bottle the quintessentially Italian zest for life and bring it back to Solingen, Germany, the home of the WÜSTHOF factory for 207 years. Solingen, known throughout the world as the “City of Blades,” has a historic reputation for knife forging. In our modern WÜSTHOF workshops, we employ all the highest-quality features that make our region a worldwide symbol for outstanding knife artisanship. Nonna Olga: Our Calabrian Inspiration Amidst the gentle hills of Calabria lies Castello di Serragiumenta, a 16th century castle and home to Nonna Olga and her family. Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves filled with ancient trees, this sun-drenched, centuries-old Italian villa houses inviting guest rooms, a restaurant serving authentic Calabrian cuisine, and land that allows Nonna Olga’s family to grow much of their delicious food onsite. Nonna Olga is the culinary heart of Castello di Serragiumenta; she has run the castle’s 500-year-old kitchen for six decades. Between southern Italy’s agricultural bounty and Nonna Olga’s magnetic charm, Castello di Serragiumenta was the clear point of origin for the Amici series, our knife collection with a Calabrian soul. Amici is our way of recognizing that cooking sometimes goes beyond the simple act of chopping, mincing, slicing, dicing, and carving; it’s a culinary bridge that brings multiple generations from multiple countries together. The knife is a central cooking tool -- and the hero of many kitchens -- but it’s also an invitation: to learn new skills, to cook your favorite meal, and to share in the conversation that only happens in the in-between moments, like chopping an onion. Calabrian Olive Wood Handles Each Amici knife is an original thanks to the individualized grain of the olive wood handles. The Calabrian olive tree is slow growing, with extremely durable wood that is naturally antibacterial. Our sustainably sourced wood comes from olive trees that bear little to no fruit, due to their advanced age, and each handle’s organic shape fits comfortably in hands of any size. Iconic WÜSTHOF Steel The Amici blade is forged from a single piece of WÜSTHOF steel in our factory in Solingen, Germany. Our special stainless steel, shaped precisely in our forge, is exceptionally hard, durable, and rust-resistant. Each blade is ground and polished by hand by our experienced knife artisans to perfect it for daily use. These knives are extraordinarily sharp, and designed to stay sharp for longer.
